You've perhaps visited with your conventional medicine doctor (for all of 15 minutes) about some of these symptoms but were told your blood work looks "normal" or "you're just getting older" or worse, you were prescribed a pharmaceutical drug to mask the symptoms only to have side effects and new symptoms appear later. Please know, I believe there are good conventional medicine doctors out there, and we need them in acute scenarios. However, they are taught in school to diagnose and treat with prescription drugs and surgery. I equate this to bailing water out of a sinking boat instead of trying to find the leak. This is not a model that gets to the bottom of WHY you have that symptom in the first place, and prescription drugs don't actually heal anyone. Addressing symptoms alone with "band-aids" and cookie-cutter approaches, simply doesn't work. You deserve to be heard and viewed as an individual. No gaslighting here. Read that again. This quote, by an unknown author, resonates with me deeply. When you allow your body to cascade into complete dysfunction due to ignoring your body's signaling via symptoms, or resigning to the notion of "oh, I'm just getting older, this is part of life" you are actually contributing to your body's exhaustion and break down which ultimately leads to disease(s) and a shortened healthspan and lifespan. The values you receive on your labs from your conventional medicine doctor may be deemed "normal," but they are not necessarily healthy. Unfortunately, standard lab reference ranges represent a total population regardless of health status, meaning it's a mix of healthy and unhealthy people. This creates a wider bell-curve and can vary from lab to lab.
FDN preferred ranges attempt to reflect a population that is more self-aware, better educated on health, and potentially on a personal health journey, which produces a narrower bell-curve. As an FDNP, I focus on pattern recognition and always correlate with a client's health history, symptoms, and genetic potential.
